In Love With A Ward

Working on A Ward has been such a wonderful experience. A Ward is the general surgery/overflow ward, so we get everything. In my first few weeks alone I have cared for patients recovering from surgery for burn contracture release, cleft lip repairs, hernia repairs, goiter repairs, lipoma removals, and facial reconstructions. Building relationships with my patients as they recover from surgery is amazing and playing with all the children and seeing them smile warms my heart. I want to keep them all. Saying goodbye when they leave to go home is the hardest part of the job, but I know that the Lord is going to continue to work in their lives after we leave, and they are leaving into a better life than the one they came to us with. Praise the Lord for the gifted hands of the surgeons onboard who have helped us to give these people hope.

On the weekends I have enjoyed my time off going to the local markets or spending the day on Roume Island. Guinea truly is a beautiful place behind the dust and grime of the city.
